Should I downgrade from El Capitan to Mavericks? (2009 MBP 13")

I am using a fairly old MacBook Pro 13" that is a hand-me-down. It was running Mountain Lion when I got it. I upgraded it to Yosemite and recently to El Capitan. Both seem to run very slow.

I am debating whether to downgrade to Mavericks. I have looked at the various tutorials online on how to do it and feel fairly confident.

But, I would like a second opinion on if it is worth the time and energy.

Disable Photo Booth

Can someone please give me steps to disabling photo booth from the Mac. I know it cannot be deleted because it is apart of OS X but can I disable it and basically hide it away. I use Spotlight to launch apps all the time and whenever I want to open Photos I accidentally open Photo Booth about 50% of the time.

is it possible to install a clean OS X on DoE macbook pro and get rid of the restrictions?
I know it may be illegal in US, but somehow this one got out of US and there is no way to return it, so why not just use it
is installing a new OS just like any normal macbook, or there are complications?

Create bootable OSX backup on blu-ray disc

Anyone know if its possible to create a bootable OSX system backup on blu-ray disc? Let's say a 50GB BDR-DL disc. I'm looking to burn some BDR-DL discs with my new burner and want to practice on something productive. I realize I would have to set startup preferences to disc drive for any chance of this working.

Finder Won't Open Mounted Volume

Hey guys,

Finder seems to be refusing to open one of the volumes on my Drobo Pro unit (the wheel just spins and the window remains empty). I can access the volume fine through terminal and I can also access it remotely from another computer within my network. However, I cannot open the volume in finder on the computer the drive is connected to. I have tried clearing the finder caches and preferences as well as restarting the Drobo and computer multiple times. I am out of ideas and would...

New hard drive installing OS from different computer

A friends hard drive failed in her Mac mini. I am replacing it with a SSD drive. I just received the new drive and put it in an external case. I installed El Capitan on it from a downloaded copy from the App Store plugged into my computer. My question is, since it was downloaded from my AppStore account will the updates to the OS in the future be linked to my Apple ID. The Mac mini had a copy of El Capitan when it failed so it had a copy licensed to it.

Can't install uBlock in Safari. No error message

Hi,

I've just tried to install uBlock on both of my macs (both all up to date and running 10.11.1). Downloaded the extension, clicked on it, safari launches and asks if I trust the source which I click trust.

On one mac it then listed the extension on the extensions preferences page and all worked fine, on the other mac nothing happened. I've tried it several times, tried restarting, tried clearing history etc but it doesn't do anything once I click the trust button. Any ideas?

Hey guys,

I'm looking to downgrade my MBA 2013 11" from El Capitan to Mavericks, but I'm wondering what I will lose mostly.

What will happen to Photos? Will I still be able to sync photos with my iPhone, iPad on iOS 8 and iOS 9? I'm also not sure if Microsoft Office 2016 will work on Mavericks. For split screen, I'm thinking of buying an app that provides this feature, as I heard there is one. Any other things that I should know?

What about downgrading to Yosemite? Will I be able to get...

firewire problems on external hdd

Hi

I just got a Lacie Quadra 3TB external HDD that has firewire and USB. I connected it to a 2011 Mac Mini running OSX 10.10.5 using Firewire. All works well, until at some apparently random moment (minutes to hours later) the blue hdd light starts blinking continuously and I cannot access the hdd anymore. Unplugging the FW cable and putting it back in resets the situation to normal.
I have googled and tried to check fs_usage to see if the system was accessing that disk, but it did not...

Erasing bootable USB. Help Please.

Using the dd command in terminal I tried creating a bootable USB drive for ubuntu and other operating systems. The disk was formatted but is not recognised as a bootable disk when I reboot the computer. I would like to erase / reformat the USB so that I can try again but disk utility does not allow me to partition the disk. Please help. How can I set this USB drive to factory default?

sorry guys, i know this is a little off topic, not necessarily iMac... but just want to hear some thoughts


so, i'm currently behind a double NAT, meaning the 'public' ip my router gets is actually a private ip, say 10.0.1.2 and obviously i don't have control on the upper level router. therefore, there is no way for me to use stuff like DDNS to access my files while outside home

so, I'm thinking, if i connect to a VPN that gives me a dedicate IP (say, 73.1.2.3) and port forwarding, then...

Stuck when going in sleep mode

Hi

When I close the lid of my Macbook Pro it sometimes gets stuck and the fans start spinning up. When I reopen the lid the screen just stays black and there is nothing I can do besides holding the power button.

This is a problem that has been going on for quite a long time, even before El Capitan so I don't know what can be the cause. There are no particular problems running (I even tried closing them all down before going to sleep and it still occurs).

Hi

Cleaning up my Macbook before I sell on and migrate to my new Mac when I noticed something a little odd with my external WD Thunderbolt Duo as it shows up in DiskUtility (see attached screenshot).

Looking for a thread or guide to take me through how to repair this. Have found no one with a similar issue.

Hi,

I've recently acquired an Eizo monitor that comes with ColorNavigator calibration software.

Every time I open the application it freezes for some minutes and finishes up with this message: ""initialization error failed to start the software".

I tried uninstalling every adobe product as someone suggested me (adobe air related issue). Didn't work.

This is what I get in the console:

Filevault on External drives - can this work?

I have 3 external drives.

Drive-A is a nightly "smart update" bootable copy of my OS by Chronosync
Drive-B is external file storage
Drive-C is a copy of B "smart updated" nightly by Chronosync

I know I can Filevault these drives, but I have questions and Google is no help.

Q1: If I Filevault these drives, what happens upon boot? Are they unmounted until I manually mount manually?
Q2: If I need to boot to the OS external clone, will I be able to boot to it over USB 3?
Q3: Will drive B be...

No one here wants to hear this or admit it, but we are in the age of the MAC VIRUS and until we admit in, we won't be about to address it.

I am in IT and I have seen a 2000% increase in cases of clients claiming to have a Mac virus. While there's some discrepancy about the technical definitions of what is a "virus" and what is "malware", to the average user, pop-up windows, redirects, browsers hijackers and apps you can't delete...

Using iCloud password to log in to OS X

I like the idea of only having to remember one password to everything Apple related. But what happens if I change my iCloud password? Will it get synchronized automatically or will I need update it manually on my Mac, e.g. by re-enabling usage of a local password and then switch back to iCloud? If not, it would require my Mac to have an Internet connection when booting up so that it's able to synchronize the password to reflect that of my iCloud, right?

Is there anything else I need to be...
