restoring old messages?

Problem: I have photos that a person sent me thru iMessage about a year ago. Somehow they were deleted from my iPhoto library but that is another matter. I figured I could just go to the text message exchange and re-download the pics. As of the last 2 months, they are no longer there.

I back up everything on a TC. So naturally I figured I could possibly restore a backup of the messages app from a much earlier date when I know the pics are still there, but that isnt possible. I need to do a...

Reseting fusion drive iMac.

I have a fusion drive on my iMac (HDD+SDD). Anyways I screwed it up by formatting my SSD while trying to bootcamp my imac. I reinstalled OS X on the SDD and started fresh. I used third party recovery tools, to recover what I needed from the HDD. Now I want to clear my entire computer and start fresh. Is there some magical "re-start button" that will re-create my fusion drive and format everything as it came in the box? Or will I have to do that my self with terminal and such? How do I fix...

Regular keyboard with OS X

Hey,

I don't like the Apple Wireless Keyboard, I had lots of pain in the ass solving the Caps Lock delay and I decided that apart from the Caps Lock "feature", it's also very small for me and I'd prefer a larger keyboard.


Is it possible to use a regular keyboard on my Mac? How are the cmd and the other special keys remapped when using a regular keyboard?

Lost path to home folder :/

Hey guys, long time no see :) I ran into an embarrassing problem today and I could use your help.

Using Workgroup Manager, a free Apple tool for servers, I accidentally removed the path to the home folder for the local user. After rebooting everything has turned into default and I'm getting errors that the home folder could not be found. I tried going back into the program but it will crash, while clicking the "advanced options" menu for the user account does nothing.

I really felt that OS X become less stable compare to Mavericks and Mountain lion. Let me ask this question: Why Apple updating OS X annually? It's too fast to update OS X every year that they don't fix bugs and issues within a year. My Mac crashed randomly and is unstable after Yosemite and El Capitan. If they can't fix these problems within a year, why don't they update OS every 2~3 yrs? This is a serious problem. I have Adobe programs that I'm using for my major and I really hate to...

How Do You Synchronize Your Audio Files on iTunes Across All Apple Devices?

I have a lot of audio and mp3 files and I have using iTunes to play it for the last 8 years.

Every time I change my Mac, I have to copy the iTune folder and transfer it to my new Mac, it is just cumbersome.

Is there anyway I can synchronize all my audio files in iTunes across all devices?

I accentually deleted a folder, which was on my Desktop, while I was do some cleanings on my mac manually (rm -r *). Without notice I have put that folder into trash. Is there a way to search with wildcards like in Windows Explorer?

I have a folder and I'm trying to search only specific files so that I can delete them in one click and I can't seem to find a quick way to do this. Any method I try in Finder still involves weeding out files I don't want.

The files I'm searching go:
V1***.jpg (ex: V1000.jpg, V1234.jpg, etc.)
and I'm trying to just get the ones that go V1*3*.jpg.

Normally in Windows Explorer, I would search V1*3*.jpg and it'll give me a result with all the files so that I can do a select all...

Is there a way to search with wildcards like in Windows Explorer?

File sharing Problem: Windows can access each and every file(non-shared too) on my Mac

Hey there,

I tried starting file sharing between my Mac and Windows PC. Went to Sharing in Preferences, enabled File sharing, enabled SMB and enabled my user account for sharing as shown in the pic.

But when I access my Mac's folder on Windows pc, I can see each and every folder there. Even my Macintosh HD is also shared there, even though I just shared two folders i.e. Dramas and Movies.

Hi,

I often get this message when ejecting external harddrives:
"The disk 'disk-name' wasn't ejected because one or more programs might be using it"

I've been looking around for answers and found this command to snoop at what program might be holding it back:

Why is it that Adobe insists on putting ALL OF THESE UNINSTALL ICONS on the Launchpad? It is as if they just don't care about coding anything properly, and this is the mess we are left to clean up!

Are they just saying that Adobe admits they suck so much that they even throw uninstall apps on my launchpad?

How to move iPhone backup location for iTunes? Any idea?

I backup my iPhone 6 Plus 128GB through iCloud, but prefer to use iTunes as my main backup and restore option for iOS restores etc. Unfortunately even if you have your iTunes library stored on an external drive, your iOS device backups are still store on the local Macintosh HD. This is a problem for me as my Photos app and other document apps in iOS are huge and iTunes backup stores the app content on my local Macintosh drive when I do the back up. I want iTune backup to store iOS Photos app...

Hey Guys,

first of all sorry for my english that is not my native language so most probably I can't explain my problem to you as detailed as I should but I will try.

So the problem is the following:
- OSX (El Capitano) is the default OS however the iMac (late 2009) boots itself up in Windows (7).
- OSX startup keys just NOT working I mean none of those (command-r, shift, c, alt/option).
- Windows is only able to boot in Safe Mode otherwise it freezes at the splash screen.

Bluetooth disconnects Denon Heos 5 wireless speaker

I just got the Heos 5 speaker for christmas, and have successfully paired it via wifi with my iphone.
But when Im trying to pair it via bluetooth with my Mac, it just keeps disconnecting the speaker. Im unable to play music from the Mac.

What do I do?

Hi,

10.10.5 mac os version, I am using the 3g datacard with ipsec forticlient from fortinet. VPN server -Fortigate has been configured to push the 0.0.0.0/0 default route to client. from the client debug I see that 0.0.0.0/0 has been pushed to client, however the routing table in mac os appears as 0.0.0.0/32. VPN tunnel gets established. But VPN traffic (ESP)never leaves.

Issue is not seen with native ipsec vpn client of MAC. default route is installed correctly via utun0 interface

Spoof OSX Version?

Trying to get an A1150 functioning and usable again after sitting in a drawer for a while.

Disappointed that most software that I currently use isn't usable on 10.6.. I'd love to find a way to spoof the OS version so I can install some of the programs I need. All of which are 32-bit, so there shouldn't be any issue there at all.

Anyone know of an app or program that could make this happen? I know this is kind of a ridiculous request, but thought i'd ask.

Sad thing is.. I can install...
